The world’s biggest Metal opera was finally coming to Australia. 20 years after the release of the original Metal Operas, Musical mastermind Tobias Sammet decided to bring the full AVANTASIA stage show to Australia!

AVANTASIA’s eighth studio album, ‘Moonglow’ was released via Nuclear Blast in February and boasts an incredible list of performers including Jorn Lande, Eric Martin (Mr Big), Geoff Tate (ex-Queensryche), Michael Kiske (Helloween), Bob Catley (Magnum), Amanda Somerville, Candice Night, Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) & Mille Petrozza (Kreator).

We got to speak to Jorn Lande about AVANTASIA’s upcoming tour and more.

TM - What can fans expect from your Australian tour?

JORN - They can expect a lot of songs from the Avantasia catalog but not from our solo careers. There have been a lot of artists contribute the album, it is more like a rock opera concept. We are looking forward to playing Australia, it is a very interesting lineup this time. I am glad I am making this visit with Avantasia.

TM - What are you most looking forward to doing in Australia?

JORN - I have always wanted to go to Australia, it is a beautiful country. I was always a big fan of John Farnham and The Little River band. I would love to see John Farnham live, he is one of my favourite singers. I look forward to doing the Australian shows and hopefully coming back to visit at a later date and I would love to see the opera house.

Avantasia has been an important side project for me, when I joined in 2008 we did a few successful tours and then he asked me to do the next album. I did not have time to do it because I was doing my own concept record about Dracula, which was called Dracula swing of death which was a similar concept rock opera album, in the beginning. I was not really into that German metal scene so then I started doing this album and I really got into it. I am more old-school at writing my album so when I go back to it, I will write in a more classic way.

TM - What do you think of your new album?

JORN - I think Moonglow is the most complex album we have ever written, it is a very catchy album you can listen to a song that is about 12 minutes and the only feels about 3 or 4 minutes, it comes out very commercial and catchy.

TM - You recently released 50 years on Earth, what made you want to release that and if bands haven't heard it what can they expect?

JORN - It was for my 50th birthday, it shows the journey I have had and how lucky I am to have had it. I grew up with more contemporary Style music, I felt like it was a good time to release it after doing so many albums and working in the heavy metal scene. I felt it was time to do something different. The singers I grew up with are always writing the same material, I wrote one album called heavy rock radio a few years ago. We did a cover of the song Hotel California by the Eagles, I also did your the voices in the box set. I remember that time moves fast and you're always busy and there are always so many great songs to sing. I always had my own touch to the songs but I am still original. I have heavy rock radio to coming up probably around Christmas and I'm planning number three and live DVD.

TM - If you could have any bands play one of your songs which band would it be which song would it be and would it be in your style or their Style?

JORN - I would love to hate ghost to doing any of the songs in their Style.

TM - If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?

JORN - John Farman.

TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

JORN - Thank You to all these fans the use of support it is because of all of you that I can write all the music that I write. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Australian shows.

TM - Thank You for this interview today, we look forward to seeing you in Australia.
