GLAM FEST 2024

Glam metal was the genre that shook the Sunset Strip in the 80s and the world, it injected fun into the rock scene and made you want to party. At the Metro in Sydney on Sunday we got to experience fun and enjoy life and what we have. With high-octane, in your face rock n roll, we got to experience a collection of well known tracks from Shotgun Mistress, Ablaze, The Black Cardinals, Crosson, Dept. Of Gloom, Sisters Doll, The Cruel Intentions, Jetboy, Tyketto, H.E.A.T, Janet Gardner, Lynch Mobb and Slaughter.

Jetboy kicked off the festival, we watched with pure enjoyment as an 80's rock band out of San Francisco owned the stage! They kicked it into gear, did what they do best, and as we listened to the opening track 'No Limit' the catchy rhythm drew us in and we were ready for the next tracks 'Moonlight' and 'Heavy Chevy' . Jetboy pulled out all the stops and played harmonica infused intros and funky music that drives it home.

As Jetboy played ‘Born to Fly’, the audience felt that the song gave a glimpse of what it was all about, a rebel-rousing blues-tinged rocker with big hooks and even bigger guitars, what an epic track.

Tyketto, a band out of New York, kicked off their set with 'Lay Your Body Down' . The big and loud chorus and powerful vocals with rocking harmonies filled the venue. We were excited to see such an epic band. As Tyketto continued with 'Meet Me In The Night' the melodic guitars, glam metal vocals and infectious rhythm crushed, and the gritty bass tones blew us away. As the upbeat songs continued we got to listen to 'Forever Young' sung by Danny Vaughn, who is a wonderful vocalist, which had everyone singing along at full force.

As the drum beats and bass guitar riffs filled the room, H.E.A.T kicked off their set with 'Demon Eyes' , and the vocals were on point. The melodic rock storm from the keyboard was wonderful, and the huge choruses, bass guitar solos, and upbeat drums continued as H.E.A.T played 'Downtown' and 'One by One' . Kenny Leckremo's performance was amazing and his vocals were pure gold. The sizzling melodic rocker continued with 'A Shot at Redemption' . The fiery guitar and great melodies showed us why we love H.E.A.T.

American rock singer Janet Gardner, who is best known as being the former lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the metal band Vixen, came on stage, the crowd let out a roar of excitement. They kicked off their set with 'Flame Thrower' and Janet's superb vocals delivered a sing-along chorus.

As the band went to play their second song 'Rev It Up' Janet had some technical issues, so Richie Rivera played a Drum solo in the interim. Janet's upbeat attitude was amazing to see, and she decided to go old school while she took her in ears out, as they weren't working, showing us why we love her.

As the band continued with 'Crying' and 'Edge' the guitar work between Justin and Janet was flawless and full of energy and the drumming was driving the pace solidly.

Lynch Mob is an American hard rock band, formed in 1989 by former Dokken guitarist George Lynch, and they played an epic set for the festival. As Lynch Mob kicked off their set with 'Tooth and Nail' , the chorus was rich and full, and the vocal harmonies were on point. As they continued with 'The Hunter' and 'Time After Time' they brought driving guitar riffs to the stage with an astounding amount of passion. The powerhouse rockers continued with 'Wicked Sensation' as the band played an epic solo and a massive chorus, with tight bass lines and hard hitting drumming, this was definitely an energy-fueled performance.

Next up were Slaughter out of Las Vegas, and it was their first tour rocking out in Australia. As they brought epic their epic backdrop to the stage we were excited to see them play. Slaughter kicked off their set with 'Mad About You' , the powerful grooves and breakdowns broke new ground. As they continued with 'Eye To Eye' and 'Wildlife' , the energetic melodies made the audience want more and every track had a jaw-dropping moment. As they continued with 'Up All Night' powerful vocals rocking harmonies and guitar hooks stuck to your ears and the audience rocked out to the slide guitars.

As the night came to a close everyone was a mix of sad, happy, and exhausted. It was great to see all the classics bands play at an epic once in a lifetime concert at the metro theatre. The guitar blazing, fist-pumping anthems made you want to rock. Every band here deserved to be in the set because they're all worthy of taking us back to the days of the sunset strip.
