GOTTHARD INTERVIEW
Twinmusix got to speak to Nic Maeder from Gotthard about there upcoming album and more.
TM - What can fans expect from your new album #13?
NM - The new album came out well. We have not brought one out for a couple of years and we are really itching to get out there with the new album . I think our album really shows that as well.
TM - What was your writing and recording process for your new album #13?
NM - We normally have a album making year and a touring making year and so on and so forth. This year we did not do that because we had an acoustic thing going on. It was great because it really got us back into some writing again. In March last year we started writing our new material for album, from March to September we wrote and from September to October we recorded our album. We wrote and recorded at pretty quick pace and it was easy this time round. We wrote some songs with our friends on this album. We worked with Eric from the Hooters and Francis from Status Quo and that was a lot of fun writing with them. This is the fourth album I've written with these guys and this was the easiest to write.
TM - What made you want to cover the ABBA song SOS?
NM - It is kind of funny, I live in Switzerland and on the TV Abba was doing this thing and they're asking a lot of singers if they wanted to come in and do this Tribute thing. Everyone was asked to come in and sing a song so I said give me a few days. I listened to some ABBA songs and said maybe I could do SOS. Then I recorded it in my home studio and recorded a dark version of it and thought maybe I could do this then I did this show. I showed the guys in the band and they loved it and I said why don't we do the song and Leo said actually a couple of years back we wanted to do a cover of this song they actually have a Version of the song except they couldn't find it. At that moment we made a new covere it and it turned out great.
TM - How did you come up with the cover for #13 and what was the meaning behind it?
NM - Initially the album was going to be called round 13, it was going to be based on getting in the ring and back ready to fight. We ended up dropping the idea of round 13 and it just became 13. Everything in on the album has to do it 13 songs, it's 13th album and coming out Friday the 13th of March.
TM - Awesome, we will be looking for the album on the 13th.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be and in your style or their style?
NM - If ABBA could do one of our songs that would be fun, let's go with our song anytime anywhere, that would be cool.
TN- If you could collaborate with any artists who would it be and why?
NM - I would probably choose AC/DC because that's the type of music that made me get into hard rock. Ir was the first found I went crazy about and got me doing what I'm doing now.
TM - What's your favorite memory of watching someone else perform live?
NM - I am a big Chris Cornell fan and a few years back I saw him doing an acoustic guitar show and he was amazing. It was a shame I got to go backstage and miss them by a few seconds and he passed away. I never got a chance but it was a really special memory.
TM - You experiment with different styles of music on a lot of your albums, what makes you want to do this?
NM - We are songwriters and we like to experiment with different things
Everyone has their own style and you kind of have to stick to that but we are fairly lucky as we can explore a lot of different things. It always seems to end up sounding like us. We all have different taste in music but we always seem to write pretty similar music. We all like what each other writers.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
NM - We hope to come to Australia sometime soon and check out our new album and hope everyone likes it.
TM -Thank You for this interview today, we really appreciate it and we hope you come back to Australia soon.
