Twinmusix got to speak to Lucas Woodland from Holding Absence about their upcoming tour and more.
TM - Hi, this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix and we are here with Lucas from Holding Absence, thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.
LS - Thank you for having me.
TM - You are coming to Australia, what can fans expect?
LS - We are a band that tours often so we have a fun and confident live show. You feel like a fan doesn't get to know our band until they see us live. Every time we come to Australia we are loved and respected by the people, so I hope we do the same again.
TM - What can fans expect from your setlist?
LS - We just put out a new album last year so we are at a point where we can mix and match in our setlist. Hopefully, we will play some songs that people haven't heard live before and we will play some songs that people have heard live.
TM - Do you have a favourite song to play live?
LS - It's hard some songs are cathartic on a personal level and some songs are cathartic on a crowd level but the end of our set is normally special because we normally play our biggest hit 'Afterlife'. It is always nice to see people's faces light up when they didn't even know it was our song. We have a special connection with Australia so every time we come back it feels like we are being embraced more and more.
TM - Is there a favourite thing you like to do in Australia?
LS - I love Japanese cuisine and Japanese culture. I find myself in a lot more manga shops in Australia and eating a lot more sushi than I do in the West. I just love Australia it's a very British feeling in some ways it is Australia I enjoy my days off the most.
TM - you won an award at the Heavy Music Awards in the UK for best live artists congratulations and how does it feel?
LS - It was very surreal, it was our 9th nomination at the awards and it was nice to be recognised. We thought we were never going to win and when we found that we won it was really special. We are a very proud British band and we fly the British flag or over the world. We have played Australia and America many times now play you are super excited and very grateful for everyone who voted.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs, what band would it be, what song and would it be and would it be in your style or their style?
LS - I'm a huge fan of Paramore they are one of my favourite bands love to hear Paramore cover 'Wilt' that would be amazing.
TM - That would be really cool.
LS - I remember I was 13 and they were on TV and I was like who are these kids and now they just keep growing their band. It's crazy to think they did that Taylor Swift tour, it's the highest grossing tour in music and Paramore was on that tour. It is like watching one of your childhood friends become a president I saw lots of videos on my timeline and it seems like they crushed it.
TM - Yeah they did.
TM - What was the first band you saw live as a kid and can you tell us a story?
LS - I was eight years old and I went to see a band called Busted with my dad, they did a song called 'Year 3000' it was really special. The first live band I saw by myself when I was around 14 years old was Paramore and You Me At Six supported them the band we are touring Australia with so it's a full circle.
TM - Did they inspire you to play music?
LS - I feel like you are lucky these days you don't have to see a band to be inspired by them but seeing them up on stage in Cardiff was cool. We just played that Arena in Cardiff so that was a goal for me for 14 years so I guess you could say it had a lasting inspiration on me.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
LS - We love Australia and we are grateful that you care about our band and we hope to see you at shows soon and thank you for having me.
TM - Thank you for talking to us we appreciate it.
