Orpheus Omega
TM - Hi this is Amelia and Elizabeth from Twinmusix and we are here with Orpheus Omega, Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.
OO - Thank you.
TM - You brought out your new album Emberglow, how did fans respond?
OO - I think it is the best release we have had for one of our albums. It took so long to put together and we sat with it for quite a while, before we brought it out. So far the response has been awesome.
TM - Do you have a favourite song on the album?
OO - I think for me Marionette is my personal favorite.
TM - What was your writing and recording process for your new album?
OO - For this one it was quite different because of covid in Victoria with longer lockdowns. A lot of the writing was done via zoom so we would write little demos and get together on a Zoom call and send each other the demos. We would put all these songs together so we didn't actually know what day would sound like in the room until things opened up again. We went into a room and figured out what worked together and what sounded cool but it didn't translate so it was a longer process. It was interesting being forced to do it differently, if we didn't do it that way we would not have done anything and that was not okay with us.
TM - Who mixed, mastered and produced the album for you?
OO - This was a collaborative effort between myself on the mixing side and Thomas from Panic Room Studios doing the pre-production online and mastering it. When I was done with the mix we sent it off to Sweden to get mixed and mastered.
TM - How did you come up with your Album cover?
OO - Nicholas from x dark tranquility did the cover. We were trying to work out the concept of the album and he sent us two drafts. We looked over them and thought it was a really cool Direction and then about 12 hours later he came up with a third concept. I was trying to listen to the tracks and see what came out and that was close to 90% of the actual cover. It felt like it encompassed the album well.
TM - How was your show unbroken hill?
OO - It was cool and it was a nine hour drive from Melbourne to get there. It was like a compound and it reminded me of Mad Max. As soon as we walked through the gates there were a few hundred metal heads and they were all dressed up having a great time and people were covered in red sand and it was the most fun that we have had in a while at a gig. It was Lead Heavy Promotions first time doing the gig and it was such a cool festival.
TM - How about the rest of your tour?
OO - we wanted to make our stage show look cool. We have been influenced by bands like behemoth who put on a great stage show and Voyager. Their shows make you feel like you are part of the show and that's something we really endeavor to achieve with our current stage shows. We have everything running to program on our stage, lighting and everything is running off a soundtrack that is connected to our click tracks in our ears and we have a backdrop for all our songs so we have really gone hard on those elements. If people already like our music I feel like seeing us live is a extension of what we are trying to achieve. We want the audience to have fun seeing us Live so when they leave the gig they go and listen to our music so I hope they can enjoy coming to see us on this tour. It is definitely the most ambitious we have been on stage.
TM - If you could have any band play one of your songs what band would it be, what song would it be and would it be in your style or their style?
OO - I would love to hear the Australian band Pendulum do one of our songs. I love their music so much and they are so different to our style and they have also done some collaborations with metal bands in the past as well like In Flames. They gave them this DMV sub disco techno vibe so I would love them to cover one of our songs because they are incredible.
TM - What was the first band or Artist you saw live?
OO - The first band I got to see live was DragonForce with Black Majesty, it kicked off my love For Live music. I love Black Majesty they are the first Australian metal band that I got into. It was at Max Watts and I was too young to go so my mum and step dad took me and then they fell in love with Dragonforce. It was a pretty cool thing and then I went to school the next day and the teachers were like why aren't you paying attention and I said it's because I went to a metal gig in the middle of a school week.
TM - That's awesome your parents supported you.
OO - When we were in year 12 my mum drove us to play metal Gigs, but we had to leave straight after we played because we weren't over 18. she would wait while we played our set so her support over the years has been awesome.
TM - Who Inspired you to play music?
OO - I had a lot of influences from my family and a lot of my uncles are into Van Halen. The first band that made me think I wanted to do this in front of people was Metallica. I think the first Metallica song I ever heard was "Wherever I May Roam" and the opening of this song was enough to make me go what is this. The energy and watching all those live shows on YouTube was an influence to me.
TM - Is there anything else you want to say to your fans?
OO - Every Time we release something or go on stage we wouldn't be able to do it without our fans. We are really appreciative to anyone who takes the time to check out our tracks. We hope that everyone gets our music and enjoys it which makes us want to do it more.
TM - Thank you for having this interview with us today we appreciate it.
OO - Thank You.
