Twinmusix talk to Ross from Ross The Boss about their Australian tour and more
what can fans expect from your Australian tour?
They will hear classic Manowar songs from my era that they have never heard before, in US power medal fashion.
How do you pick the setlist for your Australian tour?
We have been doing these songs for a while now and we do the best of what we can do and the all the hits.
Can you tell me about the stage use brands and model numbers?
I use ESP guitars and have some made by a company called Grosmann guitars, angle amplifiers, 4 by 12 speakers.
What was your writing and recording process for "By Blood Sworn"?
We came off the road in June and Mike and I started writing the songs together. We worked with the songs and built them up these songs ready for the point where you could add in drums after the drums got added we sent them to Mark our singer and he started writing the lyrics.
The recording process was very old school, we played live in the studio, all bass tracks and drum tracks were kept for a few touch ups here and there and I did my rhythms and Leeds all live.
How did you come up with your album cover?
We found this guy Stan W Decker, he is a French artist and has an amazing collection of work that he has done. As soon as I saw him I said to Mark this is the guy.
If you could have any band play one of your songs which band would it be which song and in your style or theirs?
I would get The Cream to play it in my style and The Who to play it in their style.
What was it like stepping into Manowar after The Dictators?
I was always a heavy guitar player inspired by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. I was always extremely influenced by them. It wasn't really that hard going from The Dictators to Manowar, so I started writing some very heavy songs and that's how it happened.
Your album Death Dealer was more intense than other albums what inspired you to go in that direction for that album?
Stu and Sean really like brutal music, when I heard death dealer I was very impressed by the style and they said you can bring your style into our band. I think it will be great if you brought your style into our band so I did.
What was your experience like playing Wacken Open Air?
It was awesome, I was awarded the global metal ambassador award in heavy metal history in front of 90,000 people.
Can you tell us a crazy fan story that's happened on tour?
The first time we toured as Manowar
through England we were followed by 3 cars full of Japanese women for the whole tour.
