SMOKIE REVIEW

Smokie played at the Enmore Theatre last night and they brought their A game as they performed their trail blazing hits that have become pop and rock classics.

Smokie is an English rock band from Bradford, Yorkshire and they walked on stage and we got to welcome legendary Steve Pinnell on Drums, Mick McConnell on lead guitar and Backing vocals, Pete Lincoln on Lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Martin Bullard on Keyboards and Luke Bullard on Bass guitar and backing vocals to the stage.

As the house lights dimmed and the light show began Smokie walked on stage and they kicked off their set with "Midnight, Something's Been Making Me Blue and Lay Back in the Arms of Someone" and the smooth slide guitar riffs and groovey strings made your soul dance with a fiery spirit and the drumming echoed with a driving beat.

As Smokie mashed up songs "Take Good Care of My Baby, Mexican Girl, For a Few Dollars More" the crowd went wild and danced in the aisles. Smokie amped up the crowd and they continued their set with "Baby It's You, Wild Horses and Melody Goes On" and the audience moved seamlessly through every emotion as everyone was dancing.

The guitars brought funky riffs, melodies, and classic grooves that bounced off the walls as Smokie continued with "Wild Wild Angels and If You Think You Know How to Love Me". Steve stopped playing the Drums for a song and sang "I Don’t Wanna Talk About It" with Smokie as the crowd swayed along.

Smokie brought an incredibly tight performance as they continued with "Boulevard of Broken Dreams, than a cover of "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" originally by the band "Cutting Crew". Then they jumped into a song about a girl called "Rose a Lee" and the energy upheld throughout the truly high-calibre concert.

Smokie continued to play a cover of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?", this song is originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival and written by John Fogerty. This nostalgic set continued with "Needles and Pins" and "Oh Carol" and the crowd favourites were running through our veins. The spiky and electric guitar licks and deep vocals inspired us to sing along with the band and the vibrant jams brought an energy that couldn’t be denied.

As Smokie played their encore "Don't Play Your Rock 'n' Roll to Me" and "Living Next Door to Alice" they had saved the best for last and their musical talent was equivalent of a fireworks display. There was not a single moment where these legendary rockers sounded less than perfect.

Smokie performed an amazing concert and brought pure perfection and their undeniable talent to their fans for the whole show and we cannot wait for them to come back to Sydney to rock out.
