SPIDERBAIT REVIEW

The one and only grunge, punk, alternative rock band Spiderbait from Australia,  played at the Enmore Theatre last night to an almost sold out crowd and two awesome support bands Richie Weed and Polish Club got to open the night in true rocking style.

Richie Lewis's solo band Richie Weed played last night, he is also the lead singer for a band called Tumbleweed. Richie Weed hit the stage with his raw live amazing sound. The lead vocals and rocking harmonies filled the room as they kicked off the set with 'Pure Evil', 'Lady Of Avalon', and 'One Day At A Time'. As Richie played 'Drop', 'Aurora', 'Realise' and 'Wickerman Shoes', the melodic and crashing guitar riffs and hard-hitting drum beats brought an energy-fueled performance and it supercharged us for the rest of the night.

Next up was Sydney's duo Polish Club, as Vocalist and guitarist David Novak and drummer John-Henry Pajak came on stage, the crowd cheered and they opened their set with "Where U Been?", "Watchuknow", "Beeping" and "Clarity" and it set the tone for a Manic live set. As they continued with "Don't Fuck Me Over", "My House", "Gimme Money" and "I Feel Like A Tooheys" the thunderous drums echoed through the room. The Polish Club played covers of "Somebody Told Me" by "The Killers", "From the Sea" by "Eskimo Joe", "Scar" by "Missy Higgins" and "Take Me Out by "Franz Ferdinand" and the crowd danced and welcomed these well known songs. As Polish Club played "Come Party", the melody-driven hooks, slick guitar work and powerful vocals, made you want to party like there is no tomorrow and they warmed everyone up for the main event.

The lights dimmed and Il Vizio d'uccidere by Ennio Morricone started playing over the speakers, and then Spiderbait came on stage. As we watched bass guitarist and singer Janet English, drummer and singer Mark Maher (Kram) and guitarist Damian ‘Whit’ Whitty, the crowd cheered. Spiderbait opened the set with an acoustic version of Black Betty and to say the crowd was excited is an understatement. As they continued with 'Straight Through the Sun', 'Outta My Head', 'Shazam!' and 'Jesus' the crowd was so energetic that the mood was contagious, which was evident from everyone jumping around.

Spiderbait continued to inject their venom into our veins by playing 'Monty', 'Chest Hair', 'Hot Water & Milk', 'Cows' and 'Tonite'. As we continued to watch in oar, Kram invited his daughter on stage with her cello to play 'By The Time I Get To Howlong' while Kram played acoustic guitar, what an amazing testament to get your family to play.

As Spiderbait continued to play 'Glockenpop', 'Fucken Awesome' and 'Old Man Sam', the wild, punchy and bold sounds filled the venue and Spiderbait continued with 'In This City' and 'Sam Gribbles'. Spiderbait covered a song called 'Run' originally by 'The Goodies' and Continued playing 'Scenester' and 'Footy', 'Fucken Ace',' Buy Me a Pony' and 'Calypso' and the powerful drum beats, upbeat guitar riffs and mad bass riffs had you hooked from start to finish.

As Spiderbait left the stage the crowd cheered for more songs and Spiderbait came back on stage and they finished the set with 'Circle K' and hit 'Ace of Spades' originally by 'Motorhead'. As Spiderbait played their last song 'Black Betty' the Damn crowd went wild, bam-ba-lam, They were always ready, bam-ba-lam and rock steady, bam-ba-lam and it was awesome watching two different versions of such an iconic song with a great setlist to go along with it. It was an intense performance that made you want to see Spiderbait again.
